Upazila background
This is the second largest upazila of the district of Bogra district in the area of the area. In British rule, this upazila was included in Singra thana of Natore subdivision of greater Rajshahi district. In order to protect the Shamite discipline in the area, in 1932, the British government established 1 police camp and in 1937 the area was separated from Singra thana and it was declared as the Nandigram thana by the union of 5 unions, and the area was included in Bogra district.
In the name of Nandigram, history has been reviewed and it is seen that the paternal residence of Nandini, the second wife of King Dasharath of Akoddha, was in this area and King Dasarath named it as Nandi village in the area. Later, the village of Nandini is now known as Nandigram.
In this upazila, there are numerous ponds, including the pond of Bandarpur, Muradpur's pond, which have been dug by the king and the zamindars for the purpose of water disaster in the past. Due to this area being flood-free and due to numerous ponds, the demand of fish needs to be filled, the ground water level is brought closer and the two-chambered house built by the comfortable soil, which remains intact for ages. The famous hats of the district have been running for many decades.
Kahalu and Shajahanpur upazilas on the north, Singra upazila of Natore district on the south, Sherpur upazila on the south and Adamdighi upazila and Naogaon district atrai upazila on the west. The area of the upazila is 266 sq km. Founded as the upazila in 1983 Dr. Shafiul Alam (Bulu) was elected as the first chairman of the Upazila Parishad election in 1984. Nandigram Municipality is formed in the 5 union of this upazila with partial part of Nandigram Union. For the upazila's land is more fertile, rice is widely grown here.
